That may strike you as very profound, but ultimately it is true. Think about this point that Rick Warren points out:
1. Your mind creates your thoughts. 2. Your thoughts govern your beliefs. 3. Your beliefs guide your actions. 4. Your actions create your LIFE.
That's actually very insightful, yet elementary concerning the mind. We all have heard some variation of the "battlefield is in the mind." Partly what makes it the battlefield is the shoreline where the conscious mind and subconscious mind meet. More on that in a future article.
In his book THINKING FOR A CHANGE, thought leader, author, and coach John C. Maxwell gives the following bonus syllogism:
Major Premise: I can control my thoughts.
Minor Premise: My feelings come from my thoughts.
Conclusion: I can control my feelings by controlling my thoughts.
- John C. Maxwell, Thinking for a Change (2003)
Maxwell immediately follows that syllogism with, "If you are willing to change your thinking, you can change your feelings. If you change your feelings, you can change your actions. And changing your actions— based on good thinking — can change your life.” (Maxwell, 2003)
So with that in mind, Warren and Maxwell's quotes are powerful and correct.
Maxwell's syllogism powerfully helped me during my time as a homeless veteran in San
Diego where my wife and I lived in our van. I made a decision it was time to dramatically change my mindset. At that time, I felt I had to do this today. It's worked for me ever since.
Those drastic times and circumstances required a sudden impact of what I call today, PowerThinking. Watch for my future article on PowerThinking.
Immediately my wife and I determined that day (August 16, 2016) we would be impact makers. You know what? We created streams of income that paved the way for us to move into the condo we live in today. I built my coaching business while I was homeless and I am still building today.
“One of the reasons people don’t achieve their dreams is that they desire to change their results without changing their thinking.” - John C. Maxwell
The battle for your life is in your mind and you can take it to the bank it always starts there. If your mind is "weirded out," your life suffers. Change your mindset and you begin to significantly change in your life. So here's the thing:
Do you ever get overwhelmed?
Do you ever get "frozen" by all the "what ifs" and...
find yourself kind of paralyzed by uncertainty?
Do you ever walk around feeling stressed out and you don't even know why?
As a transformational and strategic coach, I am going to coach you to identify your limiting beliefs, mental models, and mindsets that you most likely encounter every single day. We'll do it in an exponential way. I always shoot for transformation...nothing less.
There is a strong likelihood that your mental models, mindset, and limiting beliefs are what's hindering success in your life, vision, and goals. Anaïs Nin (1961) said, "We don’t see things as they are; we see them as we are." (Nin, 1961) Think real good about that. If you have a response to that in 30 seconds, you didn't think real good on it. You may have thought real shallow on it.
Let me ask you three brief questions for you to chew on today: Are you ready to start identifying and changing your mental models and limiting beliefs? What will that entail? and what will the results look like?
